    Summary: On 26 April 1986, the unit 4 reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in the Soviet Union suffered a severe accident which destroyed the reactor core. The reactor design, as it relates to the accident sequence, is reviewed in detail, using information presented in Soviet literature and at the International Atomic Energy Agency Post-Accident Review Meeting in August 1986.
